Internship has been a great time to reflect, think, and learn more about college and my future career. I am very thankful for the internship I ended up with because it has been an experience that has really opened up my mind about the future. I have realized that college is something I am pretty interested in even though before internship was very indecisive about college. My main goal is to pursue a career in the creative field and something I have learned is that when it comes to this career path college isn't necessary. The main reason I want to go to college is to get the most knowledge I can and for the four years I will be there it will give me time to figure things out. I hope to major in entrepreneurship at my dream school, university of Hawaii at Manoa. I believe that doing thins I will get a lot of the knowledge I need to start my own business which is a main goal of mine. Starting my own business and being my own boss is something I hope to accomplish for my career. Overall internship has been a very amazing experience for me and I have learned so much that will benefit my future experiences. I feel very lucky to have gotten this internship.

I believe I made a memorable and meaningful contribution to my work place because of the work I was able to do for my internship. Helping with pictures for there website and social media was very meaningful to the people I work with. I also helped out with starting a YouTube channel for this brand and make idea/mood boards for different concepts like pictures for social media. My work was meaningful to my education because It taught me so many things I probably wouldn’t have learned in school. Things like Lightroom or learning how to use my camera will all help me for college if I end up choosing a major in photography, or something related to that. Working in a business has also taught me so many things about the real world. Things like there is no right or wrong way to do things. Working through problems in different ways or in ways that you feel comfortable is the best way to solve them. I appreciate being young and having few responsibilities now. I have always wanted to grow up and go to college or start my career bust after spending 4 weeks working I have realized that high school is not that bad at all. Of course I am still excited to see where my future takes me but I have learned to appreciate being young. I really enjoyed my internship and it has taught me so much but I know I am not ready to be doing anything like this full time and I still have time to grow and learn in school.Being in a working environment I have seen so many people working hard and getting things done. I believe that working in an environment that is so hard working where people are always doing something is very helpful to my work and what I am doing. Seeing the people I work with get so many things done in one day has taught me a lot about procrastination and excuses. I hope to leave this internship with a new mindset about my school work. A mindset that is hardworking and one that doesn’t come up with excuses. Now that I have seen what it is like to work in the field I am interested in it has really helped me figure a few things out. I really love the creative field and hope to find a career in photography or possibly even graphic design. I also hope that whatever I end up doing I enjoy it. I have learned through internship that it is very important to love what you do if you want to be good/successful at it.
In my internship I feel comfortable asking questions if I am confused on how something works or what I am supposed to be doing. So far I haven’t had a problem with self advocacy at my internship, like I have said in other blog posts the people I work with are very friendly and like helping me with my work.
Something I think I should work on is taking notes for my internship. I haven’t really felt the need to do this because most of the things in my internship are self explanatory, if there is something my mentor teaches me I can usually remember it since I begin practicing right after he explains it. As for communicating I feel like I am doing very well with this. If I ever need help or if I feel confused I just ask. I communicate if I can’t go into the office or if something happens my mentor needs to know. This is definitely not an area I need to improve in. For my internship I have already started to learn so much and I have been creating a lot of cool things. Learning hands on has been so different for me and it has actually taught me so many more things then learning in the classroom. So far we have started a project called CP fingerboards. My role in this has been taking and editing product photography for the website and I have had a very fun time doing this. I finally know how to use my camera and I feel comfortable with Lightroom. These skills have been things I have really wanted to learn for a while.
The skills most important for this project are basic photography skills and knowing how to use Lightroom. When I first started interning here I didn’t have either of these skills. Through practice and guidence from my mentor I have learned so much and now I feel comfortable with both of these skills. It is really cool to be learning things that will help me with my future and with hobbies outside of school. I have already had a lot of support in the first week of internship from my mentor. He has taught me a lot of valuable things and he has helped me get more comfortable interning here. Moving forward I plan to be taking more things into my own hands and working on what needs to be worked on. Besides that I will obviously still need support from my mentor. Mentor Interview
Reflection A question I have about my internship is how this company got started. They are a family business that seems to be very successful and they have a lot of customers. It is very cool to see what they do and all the work that gets put into having a business. Something that is similar to my internship and school is that it is very flexible. I am also treated like any other worker here in the office which is very nice. There are a lot of differences though. First off it feels like a real job obviously there are no class periods and we only have one break for lunch. I really like this schedule because it is preparing me for a future job I might have. Not much has happened that is worth mentioning. I am working on a new fingerboard brand with this company so, so far I have just been taking pictures of really small fingerboard parts. I have learned that the company I am working for is all about marketing and working with products. They work with lots of different companies at once and they are vey organized. I have developed a lot of skills from this internship so far. I own a camera that I have been trying to figure out how to use for a while and here I have gotten so much help and practice with using it I am starting to feel much more comfortable with it. I also plan on learning how to use Lightroom pretty soon which I am very excited about. I plan to start driving myself to and from internship soon but unfortunately right now none of the cars in my family work so I have been getting a ride from a friend whose internship is close to mine. Soon I will be driving myself and the commute shouldn’t be to bad because I live pretty close. Something that strikes me about my work place is that it is very relaxed and laid back. It is a place where I know I will be learning a lot about the things I am interested in and I am surprised I was lucky enough to get an internship at a place that will be beneficial to me.Something that strikes me about my colleagues is that they are also very laid back. When I am at my internship I don’t feel pressured to be someone I am not all day. They are very understanding and they are interested in teaching me the things I want to learn. Something that strikes me a lot about what I am doing Is that I really enjoy it. I feel like the work I am starting for this company is actually important and not just busy work. I am very excited to start on a project I am helping with. The business I am working for is beginning to launch a new product. They are beginning a line of fingerboards and I am doing research on fingerboards for them today. I will be helping with this brand along the way and I am very excited about that.I’m not worried to much right now. Everyone at my internship seems very friendly and helpful. If anything I am very excited to be interning here! I think it will be a very good experience for me and I know I will be learning a lot.
My internship is with a company called Genuine Products Group. This company does a lot of things but it is basically a place where people can bring in their designs for a product and they will make the product for them and help send the product out to customers. I think this internship is a perfect place for me to be at because it has a lot to do with being creative and it will help me learn more about the career field I want to go into which is photography.
The business's general policies seem very casual. The dress code is casual. When it comes to tardiness I would imagine most business's wouldn't want there interns to be late. Absences seem to be just like school. If for some reason I get sick or something very important comes up then I can be absent but there shouldn't be another reason. Like I said before the dress code is very simple and casual. Most people in the office wear t-shirts and jeans. This means I can dress on the casual side but still stay in school dress code. My career day went really well. I came into the office and the day mainly consisted of talking and getting to know the people that worked there. The day also consisted of planning out what my project would end up looking like. We even got a little bit of a head start and I started to learn how to use Lightroom. I got to see what the people that work there do on a day to day basis and learn a little bit about how they got to where they are now. Overall they day was full of learning and new experiences. The class that has probably helped me the most this year when it comes to internship is humanities. This is because we did a video project for this class and it helped me learn a little bit more about cameras. This class also taught me a lot about editing so that will be very helpful as well. |
