Week of inspirational math
WIM |
For the week of inspirational math we learned about how anyone can have a math brain and that it’s not something you're born with. Anyone can have a math brain if they put in the work to get one. We also learned that making mistakes can be a good thing and that you shouldn't be ashamed of making them.
This was interesting for me to hear because I have never really been good at math, but now I know that I just have to put my mind to it. We watched a series of videos and did some math problems to help us understand this concept. The problem I am choosing is called Tiling an 11 by 13 rectangle. The objective of this problem was to see if you could find the smallest amount of squares you could fit in an 11 by 13 rectangle. I chose this problem because I think it shows how I most improved. On my first try I got 13 squares. After some thinking and watching the people at my table make some mistakes I found out that you can fit 6 squares and that's the smallest number the class could find. A challenge that I faced while solving this problem was figuring out where to start. Once I figured out where to start it was pretty easy from there. After going through the week of inspirational math it really changed my perspective on the way I should act in math. Now I know I should participate more in math and not be scared if I make a mistake. |
We love new projects!
